April promises to be a big month.
Around the first of each month, people actually dream about the month we are entering. It makes you realize that our broken calendar does, in fact, have quite a psychological effect on our mind and, transitively, our collective unconscious.
What’s the big deal about April? I’m not sure, even given the other trending dream language today that seems to partially reflect Germanwings day residue: turkish, germany, pilot, crash, subway, america, funeral, law, library, devastated. Seems a little ominous.
Let’s take a look at April. As a baseline, here are the graphs of dream language trends for “january”, “february”, and “march” — you can see that there is an increase around the first of each month, but can put it in context with the normal up-and-down noise level:
So historically, a 250-450% increase is expected as we enter a month. Well, April broke those expectations, and then some:
Coming in around at roughly a 2,750% increase, which you can tell dwarfs the normal rise and fall from signal noise. Indeed, part of this is due to dreams about “april fools” — but only about 60% of the “april” dreams were “april fools”:
it ain’t easter
I also find it interesting that there were relatively few dreams related to Easter. After seeing turkeys and santas, I expected to see some bunnies or eggs, but there’s actually nothing statistically significant..!
So, a short post tonight — until next time, cheers.
